Introduction When researchers asked a group of homeless youth why they left home, their responses were rather heartbreaking. Among some of their answers included were, â€Å"she kicked me out because I was too much of a problem for her†, â€Å"my parents are abusive and drug addicts†, and â€Å"because my mom never had a house and did drugs† (Bernstein, Fosters 2008). Unfortunately the number of homeless youths seems to be steadily rising. The U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development database found that there were twice as many youths, namely between the ages of thirteen to twenty-two, living on the streets in 2013-2014 than in 2004-2005. Shelters are not able to keep up with these growing numbers, as the National Coalition for the†¦show more content†¦On the other hand, Mcree’s study Child Abuse in Blended Households: Reports from Runaway and Homeless Youth†, which analyzed 40,000 cases from youths who had sought help from homeless shelters, foun d that only twenty percent of people reported being abused in childhood (Mcree, 2008). The overwhelming cause of youths running away is to escape an abusive or unpleasant home life. As Thrane, Hoyt, Whitebeck and Yoder’s article reports, homeless youths are â€Å"†¦more likely than non-runaways to report their parents did not care about them â€Å"(Thrane, Hoyt, Whitbeck, Yoder, 2006). Children and young adults experiencing verbal or emotional abuse have also been found to be a large risk factor in homelessness. In Ferguson’s 2009 study, it was reported that half of the sample had seen verbal abuse in their household. From this we may conclude that by exposing children to verbal abuse at such a young age, it becomes to the youth an acceptable way to act and handle emotions. In that same study many homeless youths admitted that they often felt rejected by their families. Ferguson’s article is unique in the fact that it delves into the effects of emotional abuse on homeless youth, as this seems to be a form of abuse many articles failed to ad dress, perhaps because they regard drug and physical abuse as more significant risk factors to homelessness. Today, we talk about how you can improve PageSpeed Insights score for your WordPress site.Theres a lot of debate around the subject of how Google ranks websites, and whether you should put more effort into raising the bar in an attempt to improve PageSpeed Insights score for your site. Of course, Googles is not the only player in this game, and there are other tools available for monitoring website performance. GT Metrix and Pingdom do a great job in analyzing website speeds, and I recommend checking them as well. However, the rules of the game set by Google shouldnt be ignored, moreover because they are easy to be met.Heres how the 10 Google PageSpeed rec ommendations can be checked, with immediate results for your sites load time.The good news is that for most of Googles PageSpeed rules, there is a WordPress plugin that can assist you. Without any technical background, you will be able to fix your website code and improve PageSpeed Insights score!Improve PageSpeed Insights score step #1: Google PageSpeed testTo begin with, you have to check how your website stacks up against Googles PageSpeed metrics. This can be done on the spot, with no account needed, no email sign up, nor any marketing witchery. Just grab your websites URL (or any URL you want to check) and go HERE.Just paste your websites URL and wait a bit, the process will take a few seconds depending on the complexity of the page. Keep in mind that the analysis is made in relation to that exact URL not the entire website. The page is fetched both for desktop and mobile usage, so you will actually receive two reports.Googles scale goes from 0-100, and each score is marked wi th a separate color, depending on the performance levels: red, yellow and green. This serves many purposes, including thermoregulation and the diffusion of CO2, but most importantly creates a water potential difference which causes the mass flow of water and nutrients from the roots to the leaves of the plant. Transpiration is accomplished through structures on the surface of the leaf called stomata, which are guarded by a pair of guard cells. Guard cells control the opening and closing of the stomata as well as the size of the opening; they open in order to obtain O2 and CO2 in the process they allow the escape of H2O. This experiment was conducted to learn more about this process, and how certain common environmental factors affect it. Plant transpiration increases with the presence of wind due to increased evaporation from leaves. Results: The transpiration rate of the sunflower in the presence of wind was consistently greater than that without wind, also causing the mean to be higher, shown in Table 1. Also included in Table 1, the variability was less in the sunflower with wind along with standard deviation. Table 1: Rate of Transpiration in sunflower plant with and without wind. Discussion: Although the rate of transpiration was consistently, noticeably greater while wind was present than it was in the absence of wind, there were some limitations to this study. One of the limitations of the experiment is that was performed in a college lab setting with various activities simultaneously going on, which could’ve affected the speed of the wind between all of the runs. The main shortcoming is that, because only one plant of one species was used, this cannot be used to generalize that this is true for all plants. In general, the results support the hypothesis that the rate of transpiration is higher in plants while wind is present. Transpiration increases in the presence of wind for two main reasons. When the stomata open, the wind would increase evaporation and the amount of H2O that escapes from the open pores. Also, when water is transpired it remains around the plant, causing area within the vicinity to become humid. Wind pushes that saturated air and replaces it with drier air, which is easier for water to evaporate into. Further studies could include not only other variables affecting transpiration, such as relative humidity of the atmosphere, temperature, pH of water and amount of available water, but also how much each of those individual variables contribute to the rate of transpiration in relation to each other.
